Halloween Around Cypress: Free Fun, Costumes & Candy!

Your local guide to free Halloween events in Cypress, Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, La Palma, and Buena Park | October 23–31, 2026

It's officially spooky season in Southern California!

The pumpkins are out, giant skeletons have taken over front yards, and we're all pretending the weather got the memo about fall.

But who needs sweater weather when there's Halloween fun to be had?

If you're looking for something to do with the family over the next week, I've rounded up some free Halloween events happening right here in Cypress and our neighboring communities.

We're talking costume contests, trick-or-treating, carnival games, and enough candy to keep your dentist busy through Thanksgiving.

And the best part? You don't have to spend a fortune to have a frighteningly good time!

1. La Palma Halloween Carnival

Saturday, October 24 | 3:30–6 PM
Where: Central Park, 7821 Walker Street, La Palma
Admission: FREE

La Palma knows how to throw a Halloween party!

Their annual Halloween Carnival features games, treats, giveaways, and costume contests for the whole family.

And they're not stopping at the usual best-costume competition. There are categories for the funniest, most original, spookiest, best duo, and even pets!

So if your dog has been patiently tolerating that hot dog costume, here's a chance to make it worthwhile.

Food trucks will also be on-site, with food available for purchase.

2. Los Alamitos Trunk or Treat

Saturday, October 24 | 5–7:30 PM
Where: Little Cottonwood Park, 4000 Farquhar Avenue, Los Alamitos
Admission: FREE

If your little ones are ready to collect candy, Los Alamitos has them covered!

This annual community favorite features decorated trunks, trick-or-treating, costume contests, carnival games, and a free pumpkin patch while supplies last.

There are also bounce houses, a spooky train, and activities for different ages.

It's the kind of event where kids can burn off some energy before replenishing it with an impressive amount of sugar.

Who says Halloween fun has to wait until the weekend?

Buena Park's Cops N' Goblins celebration offers a chance for families to enjoy a festive afternoon with local police and community members.

It's a fun opportunity to get the costumes out early and enjoy a little midweek Halloween excitement.

4. Trick or Treat on Main Street — Seal Beach

Friday, October 30 | 11 AM–4 PM
Where: Main Street, Old Town Seal Beach
Admission: FREE

Now this is one of my favorite kinds of community traditions!

The businesses along Main Street in Seal Beach welcome little trick-or-treaters for an afternoon of costumes, candy, and neighborhood fun.

Participating merchants hand out treats, giving families a chance to enjoy Halloween while exploring the shops and restaurants that make Old Town Seal Beach so charming.

Look for balloons at participating businesses.

And let's be honest, a little shopping while the kids collect candy doesn't sound like a bad afternoon!

It's another chance for little ones to show off their costumes before heading out for traditional neighborhood trick-or-treating later that evening.

The city's event listing contains conflicting times, so be sure to check the latest information before heading out.

And Don't Forget Our Own Cypress Neighborhoods!

As much fun as the organized events are, I think some of the best Halloween entertainment happens right here in our neighborhoods.

Drive through Cypress this time of year, and you'll find everything from a few cheerful pumpkins to front yards that look like they hired a Hollywood special-effects department.

Giant skeletons, spooky lighting, inflatable monsters, and enough fake spiderwebs to keep an entire neighborhood of spiders unemployed.

I love seeing how creative people get!

Take a walk around your neighborhood, admire the decorations, and enjoy the season. Sometimes the best entertainment is right around the corner.

And if you know of a particularly spectacular Halloween display in Cypress, please tell me. I'd love to see it!

Happy Halloween, Cypress!

Whether you're collecting candy, exploring Seal Beach's Main Street, or enjoying a neighborhood stroll, I hope you find a little Halloween fun over the next week.

Just remember to check the organizers' websites before heading out. Dates, hours, and availability can change, especially for popular events.

And if your kids come home with more candy than they can possibly eat, well... I hear parents are pretty good at helping with that problem.

Happy Halloween!
